Commando Seeley vs Commando Manx

Yes Chris and Gortnipper, the dual upper tubes is what I recall for the MkIV. The first picture was not as clear and what I thought was an oil spigot to frame is actually the rear fuel tank alloy hold down nub. Excellent reference pictures.

From what I can tell of the MkI frame, the front and the center portions of the frame looks very similar to a Mk2.

+1 on the write up Kenny, every time I ride my 1955 Manx (which Is not that often these days) I cannot get over how easy it is to ride relatively fast (for me that is), in their time the Featherbed must have been a big eye opener.
Never had the opportunity to ride a Seeley unfortunately but great to read the comparison here :)

My impression after riding the 1961 30M was that if you bought a Manx back then - if you were not an A grader, you soon became one. A good bike makes a good rider because your style adjusts to the machine. The Manxes were developed by top riders, those that followed had the advantage of not having to develop the bike. The combination of a poorly developed bike and an inexperienced rider gives what ? When I built my Seeley, I'd had 12 years of racing about 4 times per year with a bike which gave me a really hard time. So I had some idea about what I was actually doing. The Seeley is different to the Manx - the race lines are different because the bike is much more direct in it's steering. With mine, I put my mind where I want it, and it is there. I have found that my riding style has changed a lot. - A Manx is much more sane.

Hi all

I believe the full rear loop couldn't be made, until Colin invested in the right tube bender.
Lovely to finally see a descent photograph of it.

I'd say that is pretty right. The bend under the pivot of the MK3 is very pretty and all of that centre-bracket area is very strong. Making that bend would not be easy with chrome-moly tube. The Seeley G50 was the best ever British single cylinder racing motorcycle. It's problem was that it arrived that bit too late - the two-strokes had taken over.
