Hi All,
after more than 30 years closed and forget, i bought time ago, a Commando 20M3/130388.
I thought the bike was a Fastback, but asked to the NOC what type it was.
Well, is a Commando "R" and dates from 28th march 1969.
It went new to the Dealer Schofield Goodman of Toronto.
I have bought this bike all rusted with missing tank, seat, oily tank, and other parts.
Anyway, and i don't know why, i am happy.
I would like to have some informations.
I can recognize from the few pictures on the web fiberglass red metal flake tank, a S type seat, a early Fastback oil tank and left side cover, a 1969 Fastback front end, a chrome rear mudguard (but i don't know if is the Fastback one or the S type one!).
I really don't know other differences or particulars own.
Who knows this model and let me understand better?.
Ciao
Piero

I saw this from a quick web search:
Types R, S, and SS

Nice bikes!

Commando R: do you like?

We have a member or 2 that have the R model. If you look in the back of the 68 Spares manual, there is a section that lists some of the differences as a separate section. It's probably a mix of early Fastback (original Commando), 70 S and Roadster with cigar silencers. Start here http://www.andover-norton.co.uk/Commando.htm

It would be nice to reproduce the R, but it's up to you.

Hi.
The R type seems, from the pictures, dont have the air box filter.
What was mounted on?
Thanks
Piero

Pretty sure battery tray and oil tank are just like the early fastback (originally known as Commando), see page 32 of L.A.B.'s pdf link, so it's different than the 70 S and Roadster, probably more like the 71, but larger side panel and oil tank, but I'm not real clear on the 71, much less the R.

Hi Dave,
Sure the R mounted the first Commando (then Fadtback) large oil tank and side cover.
But from the pictures posted on the web i cannot see the airbox!!!
What the R type used?

On the red bike in the photo, I see the standard ham can air filter. Look close.

I agree, with black plate hidden from the large oil tank.
I need a new glasses.

It's a sickness, I tell ya! Still, it's cheaper than a steady diet of gambling or women.

Yes,
and I fear the time when I will have to restructure my wife!
It will cost more than a R.

Never have a conscience about playing with motorcycles - have an active adult life. There are much worse things you can do with your time.
