So I decided to rebuild my forks while I had the bike torn apart for steering stem bearing replacement. I got the fork rebuild kit from Old Britts + the Lansdowne damper upgrade. Everything went smoothly until I went to screw the threaded collar back into the slider. It screws down but doesn't bottom out.

I compared the new bronze bushing with the old one, the new bush is just a little longer than the old one. I guess that is why I can't bottom out the threaded collar.

Can I leave it as is with the threaded collar not quite against the the the top of the slider or should I pull the bush back out and try and shorten it a little?

If you mean the threaded collar just above the fork seal, it does not go flush against the aluminum fork lower. There is a small gap that allows the American style fork gaiter, the black cap that slides over the chrome tube, to snap into the gap and hold it in place. If your are using the rubber bellows style that covers the chrome tube completely, just tighten it down as needed, the small gap will be covered.

That is good news. I couldn't remember if threaded collar was against the top of the fork lower or not. Thanks for the help!
