Just rebuilt my '73 850 Commando and it is only running on one cylinder. I have checked all of the obvious ideas and they all seem to check out (spark, timing, fuel/air). The last idea I have is that it is a compression issue the cylinder does seem to 'suck' slightly if I place my hand on the muffler. What would cause a lack of compression (lash?)? I am planning to run a compression test, any suggestions on best way to do so?

Also can anyone suggest somewhere to send a smith speedo gauge to send out for a glass replacement?

Thank you in advance

Valve adjustment, sounds like.

I have used Joel Levine in Georgia to rebuild meters; 40+ meters with 100% satisfaction.

Sounds like a exhaust valve leak if its got a slight suck from the muffler.

If when you put the head on did you have a problem with the push rods seating?
I bent a valve once when I cranked the engine over by hand after I install my head. The push rods weren't seated.
