Commando Fastback opportunity

Here in New Zealand Commandos prices vary from about us $6000.00 for a runner to $ 13000 for a 'restored' one....generally the electric start ones fetch the higher prices.
Rare to see real 'do ups'....although I did see a barely running one for sale here a couple of years back for well over 4K.....
My Combat has been 'restored' at some point in the last 20 years and seems to go well
Triumphs are a lot lower due most likely to the 'Classic Range'....the look minus the spannering.
I have a Thruxton and it goes well....just sort of lacks something.....
quite a few classic bikes get snapped up by Aussie...mainly Ducatis. I can't complain as two of my bikes are ex OZ

Holy, Cow. Sounds like I ought to sell all my guns, buy Nortons and move to OZ. Bonus is getting out of the snow, but I can't stand the heat + humidity, have you guys got a temperate place over there?

I have an exception to suggestion (and fact) of tough times and a declining market~

If "you" look around even in the toughest of times there are peeps that are making serious money or running business as always ~

I am sure very one of us knows of someone, or others that are collectors and even hoarders of motorcycles. Even some seemingly hell bent on saving every preferred motorcycle/s of choice ~

Sure there are a lot of folks, self including self determined to remain 100% debt free and save save save!

( Seems our government is set on ensuring every Ozzie remains IN DEBT and the workers maintain their governments preferred objectives & services through GST / tax!! )

In fact if we had the space I would seriously consider this Commando myself !!

Yes DogT Far north QLD and the Atherton Tablelands ~ West of Cairns ~ 1800 ft above sea level ~ Utopia it is called ~

I have lived and worked all over Australia ~ every state bar Tasmania ~ and this will do me thanks !! Perfect ~

Dave, it doesn't normally snow except the southern high country in winter.
Atherton as Stuart said is very nice, sort of airconditioned rainforest. (some good snakes too)
Tasmania is where I want to retire to, (island off the bottom right side) some of the best roads in Aust. and friendly people.
it gets cold in winter but I can always add more under the leathers.
NZ is nice too but a bit shakey lately.

OH, that's a good one, but I bet the Kiwi's don't think so.

Trouble here is even if the weather is nice in Dec and Jan, the sun is only about 30° above the horizon and hits you right in the eyes. I like it when the sun is straight up and that's not going to happen in Taz or NZ. Calif is nice, but too many people now. Hawaii is good, but I'd get Island happy. I just don't think there's a perfect place. I'd like to try though. Too bad I can't transfer my Social Security to one of the Queens areas like you chaps can.

We have different sun here, and Tas and NZ have stratigically placed mountains to stop the sun getting in your eyes.

I think we have had about 4 nice days here in Auckland since Xmas....crap summer so far. Bit shaky down South but it could happen anywhere here at any time.....I lived in OZ for a couple of years...don't miss the heat....the wages were nice though..

If I decide to sell mine after it gets back together I may just list it on the Australian ebay......

black cat, that frame looks like a reinforced widomaker frame. I am preparing to do the same thing to my widowmaker frame.

What can you tell me about it?

Is this it from the 2011 Vegas auction:

Different numbers.
So there are at least 2 on the planet.

Both '68 and '69 were from Art's collection. I'm looking at one of my NCNOC club ride photos of Art on the '68 - the one in question here.

Bob,

It is the original frame(123671) which I had modified about 15 years ago by cutting up a later frame. I did have a friend of mine who is a welder by trade take a look at the frame now that I have it all apart and he gave it a thumbs up. Have not had any problems with it in all these years so I think it is worth the effort to modify your frame with the use of a donor frame.

Thanks black cat. Is there any chance that you could measure the outside diameter of the tube you had welded in? I am going to have to buy a piece of seamless steel tubing of the right size since I don't have access to a another frame to source the real thing.

Combat ~
With the prices OS and even NZ, it is feasible to ship a bike from US or Nz will set an Ozzie back about $1500 in shipping and import costs. Of course there ar elot of variables and it can be a real mine field !

With the prices in Australia and the improved Ozzie dollar it is very practical~

I know few blokes here that have bought bikes in ! Any mechanical deficiencies aside they were quite happy ~ Mate in Woolongong bought his T150 in NZ and shipped it over ~

My problem is that I live in Far north QLD and any purchase has to bought into Sydney, Brisbane , Melbourne or Perth ~ so thats more shipping !
