I have a set of 750 crankcases numbered 235351 i cant place it based on the factory number system. Can anyone shed light on this. Could be a dodgy set.

Hello all,

I have a small question, my Norton racer (slimline frame, custom swingarm) has a 850 engine ( seriously modified); could anyone enlighten me about its production year and exact type as I don't know where to access a production numbers database? My engine number is 304245.

Thank you very much in advance.

Commando engine number.

304245 will be a 1973 made 850cc Model, as a Mk 1.

There are other threads here about which carbs and head etc which will/could be fitted.
Although anything is possible in the past 40+ years...

Thank you, Rohan!

Well, the engine has been modded quite a bit...the crankshaft has been seriously lightened/balanced, the camshaft was a Dunstall fast road when I first got the engine, but I replaced it with a PW3, it has seriously lightened and polished rockers, Black Diamond valves with special springs, polished rods etc.
RH4 ported heads.

I run the engine with2 932 Amal concentrics, KN filters and Dunstall exhausts. My main jets are 290...
The bike is pulling like a (very fast) train!

My engine number is 304217. So pretty close to yours, and it was built in May 1973.

Great looking Norton, looks very light. Where did you get the fairing, swing-arm?
I bet it surprises some more modern bikes on some twisty back roads. Any good stories? Ducatis in a ditch etc.?
It looks like a MK111 front brake. I think some 750's came with 932's. I put a set of re-sleeved 932's on my '68, with a bit of modification on the intake manifolds. It runs well with them.
