Hi,
I want to have a combo fuel, oil tank, but am having difficulty finding info , it will be there but I just can't find it.

If any one has info or diagrams of the Breather hose fitting set up, it would be helpful, thank you.

Jg

Cheers for that Andy,

I was down in Devon about 6 weeks ago it is a lovely part of the world.

I have spoken to John about two or three years ago at his place in the South ,straight out of duelling banjos . At that time for a bespoke tank and seat ,the cost was north of A Bag of Sand and he would have the bike for four to six months which is the best way. It would be good to do that design but the commandos down tube frame and with my broad at the shoulders and narrow at the hip design as opposed to the wideline cradle , which is easy . I as yet don't know how much room I will have so it depends on that on the position of the breather pipes . But I have never done this before and am clueless at the moment and in need of some assistance.

I spoke to Norman White and he will see if he can send me some drawings.

Thanks again for the help Andy and best regards.

I would think the best thing would be to find a beat up steel Interstate tank, cut open the bottom, cut a second filler hole and install a second filler neck, cut in and install a breather pipe connection, fix any dings and dents, then weld in a baffled steel oil containment section, modify the base to include the return pipe and feed strainer, then weld it all back together.

I would run your crankcase vent independent of the oil tank to minimize complexity.

If you put 250 degree oil in the fuel tank you are going to have hot fuel and lots of problems. Jim

Couldn't it be a double wall with insulation?

Well that would help. But I have not seen it done successfully if longer rides is part of the plan. Insulation just slows up the heat transfer.

Jim's right, as usual. A lot of the early bikes they did this like Indians and Harleys had two completely separate tanks side-by-side. What's your project like, why exactly are you doing this?

Very true, and I'll not be doing it and as for long rides the U.K's not a huge place.

Sorry gtsun I don't know how to answer about what it's like and I don't know why I'm doing it other than when I was well on building it , I had an epiphany . The world doesn't need another commando roadster and I didn't really want one either, so here we are.

Problems , no . Challenging hurdles to overcome, maybe. Is that not what makes old motorbikes fun . If I wanted easy I could have bought a Honda. Any way if it gets that hot I could always use it to cook my lunch.
