Hi,
anyone knows the MC Brand Rings?
Can be mounted on Hepolite Pistons?
Thank you.
Piero

I have a set of MC branded rings for a 441 BSA Victor I'm screwing back together, they are cast iron, made in Japan and have a one piece oil ring; not the most current design, but what's available for the BSA and it's freshly honed bore. In any event, if the rings fit properly in the grooves and demonstrate an end gap that is with spec you can use them.

There is some controversy about the use of cast iron vs. moly vs. chrome depending on whether the bore is newly cut or just honed, however, with the Hepolites I would think you'd have a fairly wide choice; I suggest that you consider a chrome or a molly set with a 3 piece oil ring.

There are many others on the forum that can tell you a lot more about the metallurgy involved.

A NZ side car champ I Knew fitted cast Iron rings to his triumph and and they broke at the first race meeting. In those days SG Iron rings were available and I suggested he use those instead. The SG [ spheroidal graphite ] could be twisted into cork screws without breaking.

So in conclusion, you are a b idiot if you use them. IMO.

Also, the ring lands on used pistons wear, and need to be machined flat again, so why bother doing that when for a wee bit more you can buy complete piston sets.

Ps you don't even have to deglaze the bores, just fit and ride hard.
