Any idea why this won't line up? Were they different (slightly) for something like a MkIII? I would guess it's off by about 1/8". And yes, I'll most likely just open up the holes a bit.

I assume I have it on right...
 
It looks like it is mounted correctly, the two rear holes at the top are for the ballast resistor and the front ones at the side are for the under-tank reflectors.

According to the parts books, the 062577 bracket was used '72-on. The earlier bracket type (062231) had no captive threads for the mounting bolts, so bolts with nuts were required to mount it to the frame.
 
Dave for some reason I had the same issue with mine, I had to file the holes just a tiny bit to get it to fit. And It was the same one that fit when I took it apart. All I could figure was it was the powder coating that was to blame. The thickness of it moves it further down and away from where it would be with paint?

Interesting, to be fair I didn't fit the bracket before powdercoating so I can't say if it fit before. I'll make it work.
 
71 and before the coil mounts were drilled through and mounted with bolt, washer AND nut. 72 on the nut were welded to the bottom of the coil mount. Sound like a later coil mount on an earlier frame. Open up the holes.

Hmm, interesting. I'm 99.9% sure it's a 72 frame.

Is it an early 72 fframe? I kinda think during the start of the 72 production run 71 frames were used until they ran out. My 72 frame has many 71 atributes like the bolt through coil mount. Very low serial number 2001xx. No big whoop, just a production quirk. They're almost all Bitsa's to some extent.
 
I bet you have a 149xxx frame with a 2xxxxx motor. Yes? From what I have seen in your other posts, your tranny is also 149xxx.

Other indicators may be the sidestand lug and the battery tray. Please tell me your tranny does not match your frame.

210xxx engine and frame. Tranny doesn't match.

Cleaning up the powdercoating in the holes didn't help. Had to use a bit more persuasion (of the drill kind) to open up the holes slightly. Needless to say, it fits now. :mrgreen:
 
Dave, What I mean is the powder coating on the underside of the frame bracket and the coating on the top of the coil bracket make the bracket sit lower and hit the down tubes which also have a thicker film than normal paint, Mine fit perfect when I took it apart but after the coating it didn't fit. Had to be the powder thickness? Or who knows what but these guys can get carried away with the amount of powder they apply. Also around the holes powder seems to be thicker yet, Look close at it and see how much it looks like. Had me thinking too, Almost like someone changed parts on me. LOL
