CNW E-Start

Have had a Mk III since '79 but e-start never really worked. Always kicked it over. Then several years ago I read about up-sizing the battery cables, so did that and heard a sound I hadn't heard before; the starter motor. Last summer I tried to kick it over (showing off) and found it harder than I remember, now with 67 year old legs. Yeah, CNW has done a good thing for the pre-75 Nortons. Game changer.

Estart from Matt was the best money I have spent!!
Have about 3000 miles with it now
Very nice product

I installed the Alton in '12 and it's been great. CNW did not make an E-start at the time or I may have purchased it simply because of their reputation. HOWEVER, at the time I insisted that the ham can air filter be retained so even had the CNW unit been available, I probably would have purchased the Alton so as to retain the ham can.

Ironically, as of this year, I removed the ham can and run velocity stacks so the ham can issue no longer exists. ;)

I have a modified ham can prototype that is ready to go into production shortly

There are many products that are on the drawing board and unfortunately I find myself often running out of time to get it all done. I appreciate the nice feedback from those that have invested in the cNw starter kit and will keep moving forward with the air filter option for those that prefer that look.

Thanks, Matt

I pulled the trigger and clicked the buy button for a cNw electric start yesterday. I'll probably put up a build log on the forum once work begins.

Can anyone offer advice or caveats? What can I expect?

Thanks
The wiring is in the belt with the belt. Everything is straight forward and it si very simple to install.

I installed the CNW starter on my 70', it was very straight forward and incredible quality as always with Matt. I used a Shoria battery and man does it spin fast!! I have many pics of the install but am in the middle of selling a (for a friend who passed) bike collection so I have been swamped. The only issue i had was the chain oiler pipe was very close to the starter but i just gave it a gently push to make it clear.

I don’t live too far from Matt’s place
That was your first mistake. The second mistake was posting all the goodies you bought. Better hope the other half doesn't read these posts!
If I lived near CNW i would probably have 3 mortgages to pay for all the stuff i dream of.

I can create ‘modified’ invoices that can be shown to the other half. Keeping the family unit happy is important.

Secret hand shake and all, we have to stick together

Alma says to keep money out of the romantic relationship cause it has nothing to do with it. Your money you earned is your money. Separate bank accounts and do what you want with it. That's why we have been together so long. 23 years now. I order parts and work and she's O.K. with it. Good.

If you or anyone else has photos of an installation, I'd be very grateful to see them. My bike is stripped and ready for the kit, and while the instructions are OK a picture would be worth a thousand words. If anybody has some pics and doesn't have time to post them here please PM me for my email address and share them.

Thanks in advance.

I have Matts E-start kits on my 71 ( Matt did the install ) and am nearing the end of restomoding my Dads 72, ( Pop passed at 89 last year )using nothing but Matts upgrades, including the E-start,doing this bike the way my Dad would've enjoyed it,though he would never get off the dough it takes to do one of these bikes proper.....everyone's "Proper" is different. My proper was to incorporate all the best that the Norton R&D guys have to offer, all Matts stuff,Comstock head,JS mortorsports lightweight rotating assembly.....I had and continue to have no "price point".I then contracted with a super guy Jack @ deer park cycle in Dover De
Jack is a OG triumph- norton guy from back in the day when we had the triumph east coast distributor in Towson Md......this might be too much for this thread.....sorry....point is Matts E-start kit is simple, elegant, super dependable.....like every single part I've ever bought from Matt.If you are thinking about a E start retro kit......Matts is the crown jewle.
This is a tribute bike for my Father, buddy and riding companion for 30+ years,I miss him and will honor him with this bike......Lots of photos once I figure out how to. Post a build thread I'll get them up

Great story and a great tribute.

Lookin’ forward to you figuring out how to post pics!
