Thanks, I never got to meet John though.

Those 8LS brakes weren’t exactly light either !

That may have been me who told the Robinson story...

I ran one for a season or two, had it skimmed in the wheel, tried several different linings inc ‘green’ half green, etc. I had to adjust it each lap. Then if I didn’t back it off again after the race the thing would be quite hard on by the time it cooled. I welded huge scoops onto the brake plates to force air through the vents they had. But it didn’t solve it.

It was Degens who said he thought it was due to the wrong alloy and was expanding too much. And that got the thought going in my head that if it expanded that much, what happened to the spokes?

Hi all
Cadwell used to kill me!
I used to leave the bike at scrutineering cos pushing it up the hill back to the van was murder.
You had to have the Robinson dragging. By the end of the first lap I had a lovely brake by the fifth lap I had slowing down mode.
Once it cooled it would not turn the front wheel.
Classic
Original
Looks the bollocks
I race with a disc lol.

I'll bet Robinson didn't know what grade of metal he used - he just had a few metal billits of the right size lying around in his workshop!

Hi Sam
Not known for being late to the party! Lol
My hack as was. Manx seat big fibreglass tank rearsets m bars standard pegs king & queen standard pegs highway. Now project proddie . Not sure if I am fitting the black fairing though as it might still be my run around & I like the m bars with rear sets.
But suddenly I remembered the wheels!
Number three Sam?
Chris

I had a pair of these on my honda I liked them (apart from the weight) I used to think how "cutting edge" they were!!!

They do have a nice clean look. I admit lusting after them years ago.

Your CMAs could have done with a soft rotary polishing mop and some Solvo Autoso (alloy) for Xmas, never mind, maybe this year. . . . .

Bernard
I could do with living in the garage but my wife disagrees. Lol
Chris

Never seen a six spoke one myself. Yep, I really like the 3 spokes on my T160.
My other T160 has Campbray 19" front 18" rear, took me years to find a set.

I'm after a rear 18" Campbray wheel for my Mk.3 if you know of one, I have a good 19"front , but the back has had a major repair and I just don't trust it
Hi Sam I spoke to a friend today who is getting rid of all his spares soon. He has sold all but his original bike. Anyway he said he had one front wheel "disc" & two rear wheels all are 19" cant remember if he said Cambrey or CMA now! Aaah. Going to see him tomorrow so will see for myself. Are you still looking?

Hi. Chris, thanks for remembering . I'm always interested , find out what they are if poss and let me know. thanks . sam

Just two questions: what does CMA stand for actually ( beyond the answer, "a mans name", or whatever, and does "used in anger" imply "used aggressively"? I'm sure I don't have to ask the second part, but I've never heard turn of phrase before. By the way, to all, Merry Christmas! And I finally moved my bike inside to do a few things (like keep the snow off even though it's under a car port. When I was down in Texas, the humid part, I noticed that a soft steel part on a machine I had would rust with no rain at all, if left in the open air, but wouldn't rust if left in an open garage. A car port type roof made the difference.
Cerhan Mackay Automotive if I remember.

Hi Sam
Apologies they are 19 inch CMA's. One single disc front & two drum rear. Five spoke front six spoke rear. He is looking to sell & they are rare.

No probs Chris, thanks for looking. I do have a set of CMA wheels for the Mk.3 when I get around to it, front 19" and rear18"- can't be many left.

Guys , appreciate its a late observation ...bought pair of CMA bag in the 80s - 5 spoke d/disc front and 6 spoke rear , 19”, used ever since . Sound as when I got them.

Was it common for CMA s to come as 5 spoke front and 6 spoke rear ?
When I bought my commando it came with a pair identical to the ones pictured , even the same colour
I sold them on eBay around 15 years ago

I have a set of CMA's on my Norton special built in '75. Heavy and a rough finish, apart from the outer rim, but in '75 there were very few options in the UK for aftermarket wheels.
There was a choice of spokes If I remember. The rear hub is a Honda 4 that was machined down and sweated into the CMA wheel. The front hub was machined and drilled to match whatever disc you wanted.
They have 69,000 miles on them to date, including the rear hub to wheel connection!

Will check mine in the garage to see if the rear is 5 or 6 spokes, it's all locked up at the minute
