Clutch Wiggle

Hi all, just fitted a 'featherlight' cable to my clutch, Mk3, it was a wee bit too long so I cut it down and resoldered it and have now got a good run to the handlebar lever without any excess cable or tight bends. The clutch does feel a bit lighter after readjusting but I suppose only time will tell.
I was wondering about the movement, or "wiggle", of the clutch actuating arm, I know there should be a bit of movement but how much ?
Is it just a tiny up and down movement, say 1/4" or less, or a larger one?
I always think backing the pushrod screw off 1 whole turn is a bit excessive and gives a fair bit of movement of the actuating arm, the last few times I have done it I have not backed it off that far and been happy with it , good gear change and easy neutral.
Any opinions on the amount of wiggle to be achieved?
Cheers
Robert

Robert,
the current thought is to run the adjuster screw in till contact is made w/ pivot ball.
Then back off 1/2 turn only.
There should be some movement or it is adjusted to tight against the pivot.
Movement ,I presume you mean by is vertical not horizontal correct?

Hi Marshall,
Yes, I reckon 1/2 a turn back from contact with the ball, (or no movement of the lever), is good.
Also I do mean vertical movement, I was just wondering if there was an ideal range, but on thinking about it I suppose there are too many factors to take into account on different bikes, plate thickness, cable freeplay, etc., to give an exact figure.

With the cable completely loose, I set mine with only perceptible play, so about 1/16"-"wiggle", which if I remember correctly, corresponds to around 1/3-1/2 a turn of the adjuster back from zero play.
