I've never seen evidence of the rod spinning just polished end contact spinning on rod. What need oil pump grooves is the shafts with bushes and cogs blocking oil entry.

It is not the bearing ball that prevents the oil from migrating , but the end piece .
The bearing ball only helps to stop the rod from grinding away against the inside of the mainshaft .
I probably assume too quickly that people who's hobby it is to own and ride old cars , bikes , boats ... also have the skill and tools to maintain them .
Apparently this is not the case ( hence the 5000 ..) .
Many have to rely on services provided by others , and parts they can readily buy .
For them ,your CR seal is a great solution .

Perhaps it wasn't a design error rather too much oil specified in the gearbox? The push rod grinds inside the main shaft? I'd like to see evidence of that.

And there is also the assumption that some of us are wearing pampers...I'm deeply offended and at least three years away from needing them :shock:

I have RGM clutch drum, trying to get a flat or concave diaphram , removed the plates and the diaphram fouls on the inner clutch hub, on its 80mm diameter, this gives a convex diaphram. the inner hub is all the way home in its bearing with the circlip fitted, its as if the inner hub is to long in length.
keep in mind my clutch parts have come from different sources.
 
Yes I spent a bit of time researching this but found nothing with the same issue.
 
I suspect you are missing something. You have the circlip on ok? Did you have the original clutch working before the belt drive?

first pic is with no plates and the diaphram is adjusted with the tool so it is flat, its sitting on the center hub and needs to go down about 3/16"
 
its obvious that the face of the center hub should be below the bottom of the big clip groove to allow for some concavity.

At a guess, the beltdrive clutch basket manufacturer would prefer you also purchase their matching clutch centre.

well its an RGM belt drive kit of which they have sold 1000's of obviously without problem. its designed to be used with the Norton clutch center.
 
it all points to the drum not deep enough . and it is, the standard Norton drum is 5mm deeper,

I recall reading somewhere on here that someone else had to machine an RGM belt drive hub in order to fit it, but I seem to remember it was related to the circlip groove and where the clutch drive slots started.
 
Roger just replied to my inquiry (that was quick) and he has admitted there was a mix up in drums and it seems some were supplied with the wrong drums, 5 different types and they werent marked when machined and ..well, who knows what I got. he is going to look into it this coming weekend.
Oh well put that part of the project on hold for a while.

Why did you go with the RGM instead of Maney?
