afternoon , anyone out there help with some dimensions of clutch springs 04-0358 and 04-0385 ?(lighter ones) also when the clutch is built up how far are the spring studs from the alloy pressure plate ?
im building mine up and it has the wrong springs in ( new ones will be purchased tomorrow) when i adjusted the nuts to the top of the stud i couldnt pull the lever in , so somethings amiss .... wrong springs , wrong studs , wrong alloy pressure plate , push rod was too short , and it goes on .

thank for any replys

You state you cannot pull lever in. Do you mean the lever absolutely will not budge, or is simply too difficult to pull?

Atlas and P11 clutches are very heavy to pull .... consider that normal.

Are your lever fulcrum dimensions 7/8 inch? There are levers with 1 1/16 inch fulcrum lengths ..... these are not compatible with these clutches.

The clutch pull can be lessened by using the Venthill Featherlight Teflon lined cables.

Clutch pull is also affected by the cam actuator in the gearbox. A PO may have installed the wrong cam.

hi slick thanks for the reply , the springs become coil bound when the nuts are screwed in to manual spec , so no movement of the pressure plate when the clutch lever (7/8) is pulled in .
im in the process of figuring it out at the moment , lots of things to consider ' scratches head ! '

From memory, the stud ends are flush with the spring cup lips when the pressure plate is assembled. The nuts are tightened until the stud top is flush with the nut top (half turn more or less to obtain even lift off).

Very odd that your springs are coil bound. Have you reviewed the AN clutch exploded view diagram? Are you short one or more clutch plates?

I have had similar problems with an Atlas clutch, after much research found that there are different length and guage springs ,the only clue to finding the right ones was a tiny difference in the gauge of the wire. Some new springs from RGM cured the problem , In comparison the old springs (not old at all!) were almost incompressible.
