Can someone explain to me how in the heck am I supposed to get these stiff rubber cush absorbers into the clutch assembly? The old ones were deteriorating and could be compressed with my fingers. These new ones are very stiff. Do they need to be trimmed to fit?

Wet the rubbers with brake fluid or Ford Type F ATF. Then insert the large rubbers first Then you will need a special tool. See p400's post in Norton P11 Section (p11-gearbox-clutch-kickstart-sprocket-t21646.html). Review this post to the end for an alternate home-made tool.
With the GB engaged in top, hold the rear brake on while applying torque with the tool and pressing in the small rubbers. It is usually a two person job.

Thanks Slick. We managed to get the rubbers in today and it was a giant pain in the ass. Essentially what we did was put an old gearbox main shaft in a vise, then put the basket on. We then used a giant chain wrench tool like this and wrapped the chain around it to torque it so we could slip the rubber in.

My friend said he did a BSA's clutch not too long ago and it was really easy. I wonder why the norton one is so difficult?

I got some NOS rubbers from Ebay and they installed fairly easy...Maybe some parts are bit larger causing a hard installation..

I did them on my G15 by inserting a large screwdriver in the empty slot after fitting all the large rubbers and levering the paddle round until I could get the rubber in the slot next to it, once two were in the last one was relatively easy, I did use lots of rubber grease.

Here is a pic of the rubbers I just received for the clutch ...As you can see the smaller one is actually shaped differently to fit contour of the part..Makes installing them a lot easier...
