Has anyone ever tried adapting a Commando clutch to any other type transmission? I was eyeing up the differences between my BSA A10 clutch and mainshaft VS the Norton one and looks like the biggest problem would be making/adapting the Norton hub to fit the tapered/keyed BSA mainshaft. Any one else tried this?

yes lots of people have done this the taper on the bsa is the same as a triumph so if you find a triumph one it will fit but you will have to seal the back of the chaincase by some means or go belt drive ,not sure if RGMs do one with a taper but they sell a commando clutch centre that is just pilot bored ,,,,,,,,baz

You can use the early BSA gearbox mainshaft which is splined conviently the same as the norton spline. Some mods still required. I have most of the parts to try a commando belt drive on my RGS.

Any idea how early Dave? I have several A10 transmissions, but they all have the tapered mainshaft. Perhaps I need something from the plunger/rigid frame era where the trans was bolted to the engine? I ask because I am wondering how easily an A10 trans might be adapted to a Commando.
