Class Project

Very nice job, they obviously found the CNW website.
Wonder whether it has been test ridden, no rear chain in the photo.

I wonder who paid for the restoration.

I took a tech lab class in high school where we could bring in whatever we wanted to as our semester project. I brought in my old Yamaha dirt bike, but found out I couldn't afford the $50 in parts it needed. I think I ended up refurbing my dad's old compressor, because he paid for the parts.

Beats the poop out of my '73 Yamaha XS650 twin, but my buddy's '61 Plymouth was way cooler.

The coolest thing was senior year, shop was FIRST TWO PERIODS! As long as our projects were on track, we could show up 20 minutes before the second period ended.

A lot of the parts were donated by Motoparts here in Edmonton for that class project. They were a big supporter as well as a few other shops in Western Canada. I wish they had something like that when I went to school!!!

My last 2 years in highschool i spent most my time in metal shop. Junior year I stripped a Trail 80 Suzuki apart and made a little motocrosser. I remember fabbing up a jig to mount the head in a lathe to turn down the head.

Senior year I had a 250 Yamaha enduro that I turned into a motocrosser. There was motorcycle article about cutting the frame and dropping the motor 2.25" for a better center of gravity. The front and rear down tubes were parallel so it was just a matter of process. It worked pretty good.

These experiences in highschool paved a life of being innovative.

Those young men should have a bright future. I hope!
