Hi my 2a rebuild is starting to look like a motorcycle and the to do list is getting shorter the wheels which don't look to bad as they are and I have left tell now as they where handy for holding the bike up are the only major item left to deal with. The rim are ok apart for few spots of rust but am planning to replace them with stainless wm 4s and stainless spokes. Has anyone tried chroming the hubs to save all the fiddly polishing. I like the shine alloy but not the cleaning that goes with it

My buddy chromed the hubs on his '73 Bonny back in '78. They are just as hard to keep looking good, chrome is blistering/bubbling/peeling, probably a lateral move from bare aluminum.

you will need a very good chrome plater to successfully chrome the hubs, what size tires are you fitting to the WM4 rims?

90/90 19 front 90/100 19 rear Avon am26. they seem to have good reviews by everyone. am not sure if its wm3 or wm4 recommend rim size ( will check before buying) my rim have few small spots of rust all spokes look ok but with everything else in stainless seems like good idea to do them as they will need doing at some time and the rear wheel offset needs altering as I moved engine across to get rid of that 1/4 offset that Norton gave it.l

Do not chrome the hubs, chrome weakens any metal, what I do to keep the middle of my front hub clean and polish is I have thin leather cat collar running losely on the inside of the hub, when the bike is running the collar spins around the hub, with it running losely the leather keeps the hub nice and clean and polished at all times, all you got to do is keep the outside of the hub clean, as for the rear hub just keep it clean.
