For those of you who use the Amal choke, what position is the lever in when fully open? Mine is about 1/2 way to the stop and I worry that if I crank on it I'll snap the cable (I've seen that happen). Not sure if I have the correct cables installed, but I'd like the lever to go all the way to the stop when the choke is "off".

I also find that the lever is hard to pull to fully open position. The tension adjustment is a compromise - too loose and it vibrates closed, too tight and it's a pain (literally) to get open. Is this typical with you guys?

Here's my 850's choke lever for comparison. There's more than enough friction to stop the choke slides from closing but it isn't difficult to operate.

Mine's definitely not like that. I have much less range in movement of my lever. Maybe I used throttle cables instead of choke cables at some point, thinking they were the same?

Choke inner cables are slightly longer.
This might be stating the obvious but I suggest you check that one (or both) of the carb tops hasn't been fitted back to front? The small tab on each carb top should be facing away from the engine.

No, they're on right. Besides, I think there's a tab that locates them.

Well, one would think so, but there isn't. :)

Right:

Wrong:
