Hey Everyone. I'm assembling the throttle and choke cables. All new parts except the cable splitter "junction boxes". I am under the impression the choke slider should bottom out at full choke but as you can see in the pic it's a bit short -and I'm out of cable.
Can someone confirm the full choke position of the slider for me?
Choke cable too short?

Yes, all the way down -bottomed on the carb body.

FWIW, I removed those years ago and plugged the cable hole at the top of the carb. The bike starts just fine without them. IMO they are not worth the trouble.

Removing the chokes is not really the way to fix this. I've found that some of the aftermarket junction boxes are not right. Have seen this on the throttle side where the cables did not allow the slides to return to the stops. Solution was to drill down into the junction box to allow more slack.

Yes, old carb or new, choke slide are the very first thing removed out of the box. 45th parallel.

And no, removing them does not fix the problem, it simply eliminates it.

OK..I bet I know what I did wrong.
I purchased a new set of cables for my year bike. A 71 with 30mm carbs.
But I've got 72 combat heads and 32mm Amals to match. I'll bet the cables for the 32mm are a wee different.

Sound about right?

Same for all, I believe.

Are you sure you haven't fitted the throttle cables to the choke slides? As the throttle cable inners are slightly shorter than the choke inners.

the throttle cable inners are slightly shorter than the choke inners.

I'm not seeing that here. These are the new set of Andover cables for a 71.
Top is the throttle. It's the longest cable and has the longest housing.
Below that is the choke cable, then 4 equal length cables for both the choke and throttle side.
See anything wrong with the setup?
Choke cable too short?

The choke cable inners should be slightly longer

If the lowers should be different lengths then I may have a supplier issue. Thanks for your insight. I'll give them a call.
