Chasing Perfect Tail
Chasing Perfect Tail

Classy...

Quite...

Keeping with my first impressions of Combat Commando being very similar character to older HD's pre-no name Peel has a black leather tool bag under headlight in the K/G saddle and soft leather bagger days. I've looked as alot of cycle tails trying to see what appeals to me, then others and also legal with good visibility and in Peel's case robust cargo carrying with helper struts. Gotta have horns or thorns too. I think the later cigar box tail lights belong on mobile homes.

A bit of a different path, this is what I have been doing on mine;

Its a kind of copy of a fastback tail, it is about 20mm deeper (not sure if I like this or not) but it blends into the beehive lenses instead of having the little flat that the original has, mine has also ended up about 50mm further forward (by mistake). Im also planning to do a tank, possibly a large capacity roadster unless I come across something else at the right price

Jerry Doe's Commando back side is one the loveliest I've seen so worth mimicking.

Could not agree more Steve, but that should remain unique. I am, however, inspired by his paint job; dark green metallic with gold logo and striping is where I'm thinking of heading. Black and gold looks great, but seems like every second Commando is in that format.

Finally got the rack finished last night and got it mounted-up. Just the look I was after:

Chasing Perfect Tail

Fills that void between the back of the seat and the tail-light. (Stripped the seat knurl-nut, so have nyloks in place at the moment.)
It proved itself on the 75k commute to work this morning, shitty weather and plenty of roadworks and nothing came loose.

Only need to cut those u-bolt threads back and probably cover the bolts themselves in black heatshrink to make them stand out less.

Hell yeah, tools and a thermos at most. I'll take one of the other bikes if I need to move stuff. Just hate backpacks!
