Short in bulb is possible. Check the battery voltage at rest and under load.

Or just low battery voltage, pulled lower with the load from the headlight. This can lead to ignition failure, particularly if you are using an older Boyer ignition, which start to fail below 10/11 volts.

I agree with Stephen. I had the same thing happen when my battery was failing about 3 months ago. And that was with LED bulbs (highly recommended, Classic Car LED in UK)
