I have an older Al Osborne battery service monitor, and LED that fits in the old Assimilator hole in the head light shell. Turns green when charging red when not. Lately seems to be red mostly. I have a 3 phase alternator, podtronics and a new battery. I have a voltmeter I can use. What voltage should it read whilst charging?
Suspect around 13.5, Specs on the BSM say 13.8.

Also a smoking right cylinder pretty bad on start up. Valve guides and seal, right?

Any one have problems with the Old Britt ignition system?

Possibly.... get the motor warm on a run, build up to a fair speed in a mid gear & shut off the throttle....leave it closed till the speed have significantly fallen away then open it back up..
It you get a puff of smoke from the exhaust its almost certainly valve guides or seals

13.86 v is the nominal float voltage for a lead acid battery at 20°C, but the battery will be charging at anything above 13. I like to see 13.5-14 with the engine above 2500 or so.

Valve guide/seal leaks show up under high vacuum conditions, like at idle and deceleration (throttle closed). Piston ring problems show up under power (acceleration).
