Thought I had a problem with the rear chain, tapping the chain guard.
ting ting ting ting ting.......... Quite loud, can be heard while pushing and riding.
It just sounded as though the joiner link was hitting somewhere.
Very consistant.
Has got louder, more pronounced over a the last 500 miles.
Checked the chain,... no problems there, checked wheel bearings front and rear, no problem there. ??
Realised that it went away when I applied the front brake.
Turns out the Pads are rattling around against the Disc, more and more as they wear.
Does any one know of a set of spacers for the Gramica pads.?
AC.
PS.... The disc is not warped at all.

I don't know of any spacers but I did have some success in getting pads to retract more and not hit the disc by putting in new seals with the square shape so they can grab the piston under flex and pull it away from the disc.

Maybe maybe new seals for your pistons could help this irritating problem.

Don't know if you used anti noise brake grease or not but if you didn't try coating the back of the pads with a good quality "brake grease" the best I have found by far is the stuff that factory Volvo mechanics use. They don't realy sell it to the public but if you are nice & ask a mechanic at any shop that works on Volvo's they will sell you a tube.

In the US, NAPA auto parts sells a squeeze bottle of what is essentially liquid silicone under the name of "Brake Quiet" You apply it to the back of the pad, allow it to tack up and then push them into place. It comes apart without much effort when the time comes to remove it.

PS-it also help keep the area behind the pad clean by offering a bit of a seal, so you don't find the cup of the piston full of road grime when you pull out the pads.

I'm assuming you've got a Mk3, if so, there's an aluminium disc next to the drive cushions and it makes a strange rattling noise. The fix is quite easy and has been well documented on this site.

Combat,

I am not familiar with the Gremeca calipers, but if the use pins to locate the disc pads, like the Dunlop Triumph type, I put plastic tube between the pads and it sorted out the rattle.
