Centre Stand - Safety

Seems to me a better solution for stand bounce would be a latch or magnetic holder when fully retracted. Any spring only option will bounce, with degree of bounce depending on amount of force from road bumps.

Since there are Commandos, with OEM stands, where some have a centre stand that bounces and there's ones that don't.
I wonder if there is a common feature of the "bouncy" ones?
Might be:
* Spring strength
* Worn spring mounting holes
* Worn stand/cradle/bushings that allows poorer geometry
* Other?

It appears to me that redesigning the thing is likely to be overkill when there are many OEM stands that don't bounce.
Cheers

Actually, it's an early model stand,... most people seem to remove them...

I just came back from a little rip around my test loop and have an idea..... So I'm going to use the exiting spring hole in the plate on the frame to make a "T" plate where the leg of the "T" is a welded bolt to use to fasten the plate to the existing one. Then I'm going to drill the hole higher up on the "T" plate to mount the spring, so the centerstand's movement is no longer perpendicular to the force of the spring. The increase in angle will change the leverage that the spring has on the stand..... It's science!!!

Just pulled my centre stand bushes out to check wear - a bit, but not bad. Checked for fit in the stand plates and engine cradle.
While I had the bolts loose I measured the amount of force required to pull the stand down, using a baggage scale on the foot-piece.
The result? Just under 3lb

While I appreciate the convenience (and for some necessity) of retaining the main stand, I have them removed on all my bikes and use pit stands for maintenance. Had one break and nearly chuck me (commando), and one dig into the asphalt and nearly chuck me (T140)
