I put some Castrol R40 oil (castor oil) first becouse this oil was wonderfull and i love the smelt of it
When I was a Sidecar rider in the 70's we put some R40 in the BMW rensport engine, but we drain the oil after ecery race and put some new one for the next one
Now I stop with the R 40 becouse somebody say that you can only use this oil for a few days!
I call to Castrol France but I don't receive a clear antsword
Do any body have experience with Castrol R 40 on road use??
I wish to start again with the R40 becouse this oil give the period smelt to the bike, when i make a U turn with the bike I can smelt the flagrance and I see blue bunnies and pink olifants, it is like following a beautyfull girl with Chanel # 5 patfum

Hi Yves....If you use Castrol R40 on the road, you will never go anywhere, you always be doing U Turns, and be back where you started :)

When I were a lad, we used to put a cap full of Castrol R in with the petrol, twer a nice smell.

I love Blendzall 2-stroke mix, the castor bean (same as Castrol) aroma is one of the finer scents in the bike world.

Bonsoir Yves — when you raced sidecars during the 70s, yes, you would have been wise to change the oil after each race meeting or at least very frequently. Even now, it is still recommended to change castor oil frequently, even though modern castor oil has additives to reduce oxidation, which causes lacquers and deposits to form on various engine parts, and also additives to reduce corrosion from the moisture absorbed readily by this type of oil. Therefore, castor oil should not be kept over long periods in an engine. I would not recommend castor oil for your road bike because you would spend a lot of money changing your oil very frequently and as an ex-racer, you know you MUST NOT mix castor oil with mineral oil. Therefore, not only would you have to start off by stripping your engine to clean out any mineral oil that's left, you would also have to continue using castor oil until you strip and clean your engine. Castor oil is also a lot more expensive than equivalent mineral oils. I use Morris R40 in my Seeley G50 racer, and I still change the oil after every meeting or two. If you want to smell the 'perfume' of burnt castor oil, put a very small amount (max 10 cc) of castor oil in a 5 litre container of petrol, shake it thoroughly and add it to your petrol tank, then fill the tank with petrol. If you do this occasionally, it should not do any harm. I know people who have done this on modern road bikes with no ill effects. Have fun!

Dave
