Castrol Classic 20w-50 Engine oil

Dear Deidre,

Yesterday I drained the oil on my 920 & refilled with Castrol XL20/50. Will I need to fit new main bearings after my next ride?

Yours,

Concerned of Cumbria.

Race oil should be used only one race? i don't know, I'm just asking. With our old engines my belief is decent oil changed frequently. And never forget I DON'T KNOW!
One 'race' would get a bit expensive and time consuming....and a touch environmentally unsound.

UK classic racers normally get 4 off 10 minute races a weekend and 'some' practice/qualifying, some riders double up on classes, I used to, so 8 races a weekend, still precious little practice.

Europeans normally get 2 off 20 minutes races and 2 off 20 minutes for practice/qualifying, rarely double up.

A lot of riders do a track day or free testing on the Friday as well, 2 to 6 off 20 minute sessions, though few have the stamina for 6.

One race meeting or weekend? sure.

Though using an expensive oil (currently Bel Ray fully synthetic V Twin, around 100€ 4 litres delivered), I normally use it for 2 race or track weekends!

We used to run a season (May-Sep) of racing and although we added oil whenever necessary, we only changed the oil once during a season. Never saw any adverse effect on the engines. ;)
