Castrol 20w-50 in a '74 MKII?

hahahahaha ya'll took the vulvalean bait!! gotta love it! this forum that is...vulvalean too! dirty old dawgs!!! hehehe!

I was thinking about that long before scooters...... Still spend a lot of time on the subject now too.

Castro’s GTX Classic would be a good choice as it has high zinc content. GTX made for modern cars probably not so good. See from their website.

Pay attention to wot is cost effective as well. How long are your oil change intervals? Is it worth increasing the time the oil
is used so you can afford a 'better' oil? Is fresh mid range oil better than dirty top shelf oil?

+1 for Castrol GTX Classic 20w50. Last 1800 miles were good with it, came out pretty clean, so went with it again..I ditched an earlier idea to use 10w40 in the winter!

I'm also currently using Castrol classic whilst the motor beds in.... Been studying Jim's superb oil analysis to determine which oil to use once the process is complete.. i use to be undecided & now I'm not so sure as they say;);)

About the zinc content, is this ok for our old engines? It´s from a cheap oil, just wan´t to get my numbers right.... It´s supposed to be good for clutch and gear box but that doesn´t apply for us so.... good or bad or neither?

As Comnoz discovered, there is a lot more to good oil for Norton’s than the zinc content. He tested some very high end, very high zinc content oils, that performed very poorly.

About 20 years ago, there was a reality TV show where some old boy was using waste chip fryer fat in his Land Rover. Think he was burning it, rather than lubrication for the engine though.

Well in fairness, even I have to concede that some of the best fish n chips I’ve had are made by southerner Rick Stein and served at his takeaway in Padstow. So southerners can do it well when they put their minds to it!

And… Rick uses beef dripping !
