Does anyone have an idea about the origin of this set of Commando MK3 cast alloy wheels :?: They are marked RONAL, 19" front 18" rear, dated 1976. Any info is welcome, thanks :!:
Yes L.A.B. I did look for RONAL on the web however I couldn't find any info about their (classic) motorcycle wheels only about their (present) car wheels. Anyway I appreciate your input
It would be interesting to know the weight and add the info to Ken's wheel weight thread.
Some of those early style cast alloy wheels were heavier than stock.

Hello there Nortonspeed
One 'line of enquiry' that might be worth trying is with Rickmans.
Rickman obviously have a history with British bike specials and used Ronal wheels on Honda and Kawasaki 'Competition Replicas'.
May be a red herring or possibly a blue one
Andy
that's the same width and diameter as the yamaha wheels I modified to fit my commando. You have a norton disc mounted on those rims, so you won't have to modify your caliper like I did, but you should drill those discs to lighten them. I changed a few things at the same time when I swapped from stock spoke wheels to the cast wheels, so I can't say for certain that the wheel change alone helped my bike's handling characterisitcs, but it's been greatly improved since the change. I mounted mine with tubeless AM26 roadriders
front 100/90/19
back 110/90/18
I had the added benefit of moving the brake drum to the opposite side of the chain drive, so I can run any size rear sprocket I like. I bought a 40 tooth one from sprocket specialists and I run a 21 tooth gearbox sprocket up front to have a nice balance of power and low RPM cruising speed.
Here's the link to my thread: adapting-cast-wheels-commando-t24953.html There are some pictures of a few different cast wheel bikes as well as my own in that thread. It was a worthwhile change IMO, in spite of it's non-stock appearance (the horror!)

Glen, weight of both cast alloy wheels including stock brake discs is 19kg. Stock disc is 2,5kg so net weight of the set wheels will be 14kg. Interesting to know the weight of stock Commando MK3 wheels :?:
The stock MK3 without discs are 12.54 kgs. Ken weighed them here, the front first and then a stock MK3 rear on page 3.
I'll add a link for this thread to Ken's wheel weight thread.
