Another 30 minutes of my life wasted speaking to a so called UK specialist insurance company,

Highlights of this discussion:

(on reading back my vehicle details) " that is a Norton Mango 850"

and "Norton, that is an American make, yes?"

quoted me more to insure my Commando, than I currently pay for my 2010 Ducati.

Any UK members got any insurance company recommendations?

Peter James if it's just classics, although they probably do modern stuff as well?
I'm paying about £130 for fully comp with UK and European breakdown cover for a Commando (modified), T160 (modified) and a Guzzi Le mans very slightly modified. Agreed valuation available but I still haven't got around to it.

I'm with CN. They can be plonkers but just re-insured my lightly modified Commando (Mango) at £127 with Euro and UK recovery, legal, all the options at an agreed value. Depends who you talk to really. There are much cheaper options but not with all the cover I get. Probably don't need it all but you never know :)

Peter James +1

At renewal instead of like CN and Footman there is not huge increase you have to then ring up to get rid of.

Plus cheaper for same cover.

CN 204 for two mangos and a peach. The would not insure the lemon as it wasn't a rolling chassis.
Seems a good policy business use etc.

LoL. I'll give Peter James a call tomorrow.

I'm also with Carol Nash £113 fully comp and breakdown etc. for my Triumph Sprint. I have used the breakdown service once which was due to a faulty battery and voltage regulator, brought home no trouble, that was worth a couple of years cover!

I have no real big complaints about them apart from the auto renewal, which I forgot about last year, missed out on saving a few quid, so next time I'll ring round to get the best quote and will definitely try Footman James or Bennetts to get a better quote, because I will stay with CN if the price is OK.

Footman James.
I am 57, 1974 850 Commando, with my son, aged 26.
1500 miles a year, breakdown cover, UK and Europe.
35 days per European trip.
£100 excess, Fully comp.
Premium £112.
Don't think that's bad myself. :)

Well, CN quoted for me, 53yrs old, no accidents, points etc, 73 norton Mango 850, 1500 miles, all the other bits you mentioned, £155 fully comp. When I replied negatively, he "saw his boss" and knocked 10% off so still £140. Not happy I opted to look elsewhere.
Am I being too honest? I said my bike was not standard, single carb, Norvil Brake disc conversion etc?

They usually offer a 'We will match any price for same cover' deal. They did when I threatened to change a few years ago. My £127 cover is £5k agreed value, no excess, UK & Euro breakdown and 3k annual miles. They don't do auto renewal on my policy but do bombard you with calls and letters reminding you the policy is up for renewal. Your quote is close. Tell them to match the competition, its their loss not yours.

Try - http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk

Two T160 Tridents, one modified a bit and the other a lot £13K total - £130.

Gave up with FJ as every thee years or so you have to jump through the revaluation hoops with club/expert valuations - not worth the hassle.

They did say that they would match same cover. On the other hand, why should I spend my time looking for "the same cover" then spend even more of my time giving CN my money?
btw, I'm not singling CN out on the price issue, I've had similar discussions with other insurance companies before.

Then you have the satisfaction of telling them you're going with the competition and they can stuff it!!

Insurance companies are all like azz holes ,life would be difficult without one.But they would be quick to drop

You in it if you did not tell them of any modifications made to your machine, then you will find out how expensive
Insurance can be!

Hi
Thanks for all the suggestions, to close the thread, I went with RHclassicinsurance (thank you JS). Fully comp with recovery £94 for my Commando(modified). Only thing the policy did not have that CN did was legal insurance, otherwise it was like for like..

Actually, on receiving the docs, the price does include legal insurance, so bonus. :)
