Has anyone had any success with using a capacitor with electronic ignition?

Used to be that the ignition modules would draw more current than a pair or contact breakers, making it fairly unlikely a capacitor would start a bike with a dead or absent battery (if electronic ignition is fitted). But more recently the current draw has come down a bit. According to my workshop manual, contact breakers draw 2.5 amps. Pazon Surefire draws perhaps 5 amps and I don't know about others. Speaking as someone who has more than once suffered brain-fade and managed to leave the ignition on all day, I like the idea of a functioning capacitor  Does anyone have an experience with a modern alternative that works with 'lecky ignition?

Many thanks,

I seem to remember ludwig used a capacitor with his EI. Don't know which one, maybe a search of his posts will turn it up?

My SureFire will run without the battery, but it needs to get a good run to get it going.

The thing is, the most common cause of a dead battery on these old bikes is a faulty charging system. If you have a dead battery and a non functioning charging system you are hooped. The only thing left to do (roadside) is procur a large fully charged battery and run dead loss. I can vouch that this method will get you at least 250 miles down the road with Boyer ignition and no other draw.
