Gearbox, facing forward are two bolt.
I did with considerable fiddling, remove the right side bolt and replaced the Oring successfully.

The problem is the center, or left side, bolt. Getting a wrench on allows the bolt to move in a "notched" manner, as it
something is rotating slightly inside the box. Once one bolt takes up this slight turn, no amount of further beefing on it
gets it to release and screw out. It is "stuck".
Any ideas? I do want to replace that O ring, as this bolt is leaking gearbox fluid!

As I said in your previous thread: "Theoretically it is possible for the camplate and quadrant to rotate slightly as the bolts are loosened and tightened, but it shouldn't be possible to turn them far enough to drop out of mesh."

So what you are feeling is the camplate moving as you apply pressure to the bolt.

If you can't loosen the bolt where it is, then you will probably have to remove the gearbox?

I had no problems removing both bolts and washers and replacing them, things did rotate as I took them off and replaced them. Perhaps if you can't get it off, the gearbox may need some repair which would mean taking off the inner cover.

It's only going to rotate so far. Once it gets to first gear, or fourth - I forget which way counterclockwise will take you - there's nowhere further for it to go. So let it rotate until there's a truly positive stop, then loosen.

You'll experience the same rotation to the (other) endpoint when reinstalling and tightening the bolt.

CANNOT get the bolt to loosen at all.
going to have to just let it leak until someday IF the gearbox ever need to come out, can put a true socket on it, simple wrench won't move the bolt

That ain't right. Not a high torque fastener. Probably corroded? I'd try some Kroil (at best) or PB Blaster (second best - after second the rest all such, IMHO) and see if it'll loosen up. Time, oil, pressure - heat would be good too, but probably not practical in situ. Good luck, and let us know how you get on. - Brian

I agree, something wrong. A 7/16 box end fits on it nicely. The bolt appears to be a 5/16 - 26.
