Dave, would you please expand on this? Are you planning trip that involves unreliable motorcycles? In my experience they are without a doubt the most fun. I'm thinking about this fall or next spring.

I just got word that the 2010 INOA Rally is in Canada next year. Putting it out there as a goal to get the bike together.

Cool. When and where is it? I may go if it's not in PEI or Newfoundland or something.

BC side.

I asked over on the INOA Yahoo Group.

It is being heln beautiful Lumby, British Columbia, the gateway to the Monashee
Mountains. July 20-24th 2010, we will have the welcome mat rolled out and the
entire village is thrilled to be chosen as the site for the Norton Nortorious
Rally!

can't wait, we loved Lumby the last time the rally was there and are planning
our trip there NOW ! Beautiful roads, wonderful town and the people are soo
nice. Not to mention the club there did a fantastic job with the rally. We really
had a wonderful time in Lumby and the NCNOC is coming in force for 2010, My rig
holds 7 bikes and we are recruiting a another trucks and trailers for the trip.

Sweet! I'm going to go to my very first rally and I'm pumped it's Norton rally. Lumby (according to map quest) is right near Kelowna, where my parents live. I can kill 2 birds with one stone by visiting the parents and have a free place to stay. Unfortunately going to my parents means the girl friend will come so driving the MKIII up there will be out of the question. Looks like I'm going to the Norton rally driving a Honda Civic.

She won't drive in the mountains. She's terrified of heights, seeing over bridges into canyons ect. It's quite funny but really annoying at the same time driving through the mountains with her. I'd have to go solo on the bike or drive out with her in the car and she'll want to come for sure since she loves the Okanagon Valley. The option of renting a trailer came up but I think that would be expensive.

Get rid of girlfriend. Problem solved.

Ok, seriously, put her on a plane. If she'll get on one.

A friend of mine used to tow his bike with his car by taking the front wheel off and bungi-ing the fork tubes down inside his hatchback then disconnecting the rear chain and towing the bike along on it's back wheel. Said it worked like a charm although it might get a little drafty.

I'm sure the Mounties would frown upon that kind of shenanigans nowadays.

I don't know what the towing capacity of the Civic is but I'm sure it's somewhere between a loaf of bread and a Big Gulp. :D

Dave, I like your method of absolute thinking, but like a mortgage.......I'm locked in.

I'm secretly hoping she won't come but would enjoy her company no matter what. Cool thing is that she is rather excited for me about this rally. It would be so cool to meet some of you guys in person who decide to make the trek. To any who have never been to the Okanogan valley in the summer, it is quite a fantastic place. Hot, sunny, mountainous, tons of fresh fruit on the trees (which are everywhere it seems)and wineries.

Plane is no problem or her. Cost of flying from Regina to kelowna is about $550 CAD so it's kind of pricey. Flying anywhere out of Regina here is pretty expensive. I've got a year to plan.

We'll figure out how to get you there one way or another. Like you said for you it's a year of planning. For some of us we still have to piece the bike back together. :D

This really is great news for me living in BC. My plans on getting a bike on the road this year were derailed in the spring and I'm still not quite ready to start wrenching but this is incentive! I've never been to a bike rally either but looking at the photos of them posted on the web makes me drool. There are some great roads between here and Lumby so the target is set for me!

Well, at this stage, I'm in as well. A long way to come, but......................

It will be my first rally as well. Nothing around here but billet barge shows every spring. Total crap and the same old B.S. wide tire garbage with really lame and tasteless paint jobs. I actually can't believe people still build that OCC type of stuff. What a waste of metal! It sure will be nice to see some cool old bikes for once.

What's really amazing is that people still buy that stuff. No accounting for taste, or lack thereof.

Coco,

I completely agree about the billet barge garbage, that stuff is crap. It is time these people moved on a ruined their next fad.

Luckily there is a vintage meet in Ponoka (south of edmonton) this weekend!

Folks, the last thing we need is for the OCC/poseur crowd to "move on/progress" to classic bikes = unless you are purely a seller, and not a buyer or someone who may need to buy parts in the future. FWIW.
