Can a LH Lucas high-beam switch be made into a RH indicator switch?

I have 2 LH switches marked 169SA, where the paddle only moves in one direction. Can one be altered to move up and down in order to use as indicator switch?

You need a new paddle - the switch body (metal) doesn't care.

You need to be careful as there are different versions, 5 wire and 6 wire types. Just being able to move the paddle an extra direction may not achieve a new electrical connection.

Got 6 wires and it appears the paddle could go both ways. I see now that there are 2 different paddles. Will order replacement kit.

Those switch copper strips look nasty. Get some vinegar on them for a bit and lightly rub down with some emery, esp contact areas. Flush with baking soda and water to neutralize and give it some light oil or grease help keep clean. Be sure to check the kill switch the same...any corrosion there will give starting/running trouble.
