When dismantling the cam shaft drive chain assembly on my -69 Commando I noticed, apart from the mother of all plays in the cam shaft bush, that it had been installed from the outside (drive chain side) of the crank case.

Cam shaft bush on a -69 Commando

Looking at the parts manual I get the impression that this bush should be insterted out wards, from the crank case side.

Can anybody confirm this?

Thank goodness in that place its just extra bling as is not under thrust load running. I had builder recently tell me he forgot to put his on the inside, but after 35K miles not issues to note. Cam chain and tach drive pretty much set place cam run in its easy slide range. I'd asked because I discovered bronze and shaped steel washer on outside too and worried I'd left these out of inside, but no way at this point in my learning curve.

The Norton will run strong no matter how you put it together. It just may last longer if put right.
