After months spent doing things that did not involve my 750 Combat I finally spent a few hours in the garage working on it. Among other things I removed the safety wire on the screws that hold the tabs that keep the cam followers in place so I could clean everything up.
What are people using for safety wire? I have some galvanized steel wire that's the same gauge as what I took out. I think it will work just fine but I didn't get the barrels on today so if there's something special and better I can certainly get it and use it.
Thanks for your time!

Don't know if the galvanized coating would be a good or bad thing in the application. Actual "safety wire" is commonly available on Amazon or local suppliers and heck, every Norton should have had a spool of safety wire and a set of safety-wire pliers in the factory toolkit! :)

Thanks for your time and input gentlemen! I've proceeded with the galvanized steel. The feeling of progress was too just too seductive. I've also decided to get by without the tool. This is probably my last or second last Norton build. Next up is an Atlas, so maybe I'll regret that decision. I seem to recall losing a lot of parts in my travels back in the day. Could have saved a lot of money wiring things on.....

I wasn’t so worried about the corrosion resistance as the strength of the wire. You can use a pair of pliers to twist the wire round for locking purposes.

Safety wire twister pliers will produce the cleanest and best result. Reversible for left and right hand side twists.

Does anyone know, off hand, what diameter/gauge wire is needed for the cam follower screws?

Thanks,
Ed

Safety wire is listed by diameter.
.031 or .032 inch will get it done.
or .8mm

Can anyone please provide a picture or sketch of what the finished wiring should look like please? An explanation would help too. This is one detail not to mess up and I was unsuccessful in a forum search. Thanks guys.

Bert,
Check Youtube - I swear I've seen it on an aircraft maintenance project with a clear reference as to "how to" & "why"...fiddly & time consuming but you'd get better with practice.
