Cable amperage?

I'm fitting a three phase 180w stator to the Commando, (and later this year one to the T160) and this gives me two questions.

What amperage cable should I fit for the extra cable to the regulator from the stator ? 8.75a, 17.5amp or 27.5amp? I notice that on my 2006 new cable harness that the "charging wires" are thicker than the rest of the harness.

I am still running a warning light control unit, and would like to know, as the two wires from the present stator also run into this unit from the wlc unit, does the extra wire that I need to run from the stator to the regulator need to go to one of the terminals on the warning light control unit or not?

I've found "Rick in Seattle's" mk3 wiring diagram from 2010 with a Sparx regulator and three lead alternator.
I see that in his wiring diagram, the green / black wire (the extra wire) just goes to the regultor and nowhere else, so I assume that this is what I do?

p.s. I've removed the zenners and rectifier and have fitted a voltage regulator.

Presumably, you already have these items (stator with output wires?, reg/rec with wires?), so the logical answer would be: at least the same gauge wiring as what's already fitted to them.

There's nowhere to connect the third wire to the Mk3 assimilator. You could of course remove the assimilator (and it's associated AC & DC wiring) and fit a Low-voltage device or battery status monitor as sold by A O Services etc. http://www.aoservices.co.uk/

Les, you are of course correct. I have my old original wiring harness for the Norton although it's a bit of a mess, and I was going to use one of the old wires that connected to the stator, but the wire (green/white) is 0.6mm mm thinner o/d @ 2.4mm than my more recent harness which measures 3mm o/d, so I assume that the more recent harness has been upgraded, this therefore leaves me in the situation of having to buy new wire and just wondered if anybody could advise the minimum amp wire to use/buy, so I don't buy the wrong one.

I will contact Mr.Osborn on Monday about this, and I did buy my regulator(s) from him and so I am sure he will be happy to clarify the whole issue.

I have spoken to Mr. Osborn about the standard Lucas warning light assimilators compatability with a three wire 3 phase stator, and was told that if I wired two stator wires to the w/l/assimilator (as pre 3 phase) and ran the third wire only to the voltage regulator one of two things would happen.

1. Lots of smoke meaning the w/l/assimulator had burned out,

or

2. It would work , but that the ignition warning light might be slow to go out.

So I have opted to fit a low charge low voltage switch (thanks Les).
