Does anyone know anything about these? It is a 2 into 1, and other than I will have to remove the center stand and get a side stand I really don't know much else.

Never fitted one but have seen them in person on and off bike and sorely wanted to snag one. Not sure if BUB 2-1 will foul center strand as seems they run to side of frame enough to miss it. May have to tweak carb tuning and timing a bit to match the new breathing assist- generally richer for more spunk response.

The only thing I can tell you is that I bought a BUB Commando system a long time ago like 1980 and was surprized to find the mounting bracket on one muffler about 6 inches out of place! I would assume this was a rare mistake.

Be careful of the usage of the term "spunk" with a large percentage British forum membership. ;^P

I once told a friend of mine's fiance (who was from England) when she got excited and was dancing around about wildly about getting some good news, that she was full of spunk. She stopped dead in her tracks, gave me a foul look and nearly slapped me. She sat me down and "explained" it to me. Kinda like what ZZ Top calls a "Pearl Necklace".

I have a pair of the BUB mufflers/silencers on my 78 Bonneville and am very happy with them. Even my brother sheepishly commented to me how good they sounded as he straddled his new BMW motorcycle.

I had one of those headers, bought at a swap meet and sold to a guy in Europe somewhere, Denmark, I think.

Never tried to fit it up.

Ugh, the name game across languages has had very similar effects on various product names carried over that recoiled buyers. Been to burlesque section of Paris to almost have car turned over by the people in wild work a day customs when they thought I'd taken a photo, but no reasoning with them so escaped by Jame Bond like exposion out of there at first opportunity not to run over any one, just spin them and things put in my path around and fling rest of em off car with my wife and her mother in wide eye'd terror. When return to base was told 4 tourists killed the week prior there. I ask people before I photo them on streets or else...

When in China was told only learn the Nemha for hello as the half dozen ways to pronounce words could change - I made this nice meal for you to eat > to - I shit in this plate to make you eat!

Anywho, does or does not this BUB miss the center stand or not?
I made a 2-1 w/o the Y fitting to get into splayed head ports it definitely made Peel and me come and go with road orgasms.

I have 3 different BUB 2 into 1 exhaust systems and none of them can be used with the stock center stand.
There are other types of 2 into 1 where the headers don't join under the gearbox (e.g. MAC). These can be used with the center stand but they don't look as cool.

I have a 2 into 1 Bub system that is hanging on my ceiling right now. I had it fitted to my street Cafe Commando at one point. It is the one with funky head pipes that kicks out to one side, drag bike style so you can retain your centre stand. It worked good and sounded cool. Somewhere I have a pic of it on the bike but I don't know where....

Here's a display of one version un-mounted

BUB Exhaust System (2011)

http://www.biker.net/650/betterxs2.html Not all Norton but might apply...
Our first modification was to install the Bub Enterprise two-into-two exhaust. It was a bit scary; we were going to find out if our pipe design was really going to work. No wild claims could change the cold reality of what the dyno found. The first horsepower sampling was taken at 4,000 rpm, and gave a 37-percent increase in power over the stock engine at the same rpm! Our Bub-piped stock engine made 27.6 horsepower whereas the factory-stock engine gave only 20.1. By 6,000, the Bub two-into-two’s advantage had dropped to only six percent and we were disappointed until it occurred to us that riders hardly ever rev their XSs that high. Jerry also suggested that perhaps the stock carburetors were beginning to adversely affect performance. So we added the 36mm Mikuni kit to the Bub pipes and made another run at the dyno.

Bub Enterprises quickly made up a prototype pipe and rushed it through the chrome shop so that we could take the photos you see in this article. While he had the bike, he also made up a set of two-into-ones that were of the same diameter and length and would not drag. This is the pipe that is on the bike in the lead photo. Bub felt that many XS owners would prefer the slightly less expensive pipe even if the two-into-two proved to give better performance. Both Bub pipes were designed to give the greatest possible ground clearance and will clear the right engine case enough to allow the installation of the Lockhart oil cooler fittings, something the late stock pipes will not allow. The Bub two-into-two is fitted with Bub’s Norton-Commando replica, straight-through muffler. It is made of .065-inch-thick tubing and is well chromed. Although a little loud, the louvered construction of its silences tube gives the exhaust a very pleasant sound that fairly shouts, "motorcycle!" The two-into-two pipe costs about $165, in chrome only, from your dealer and the two-into-one retails for $145 in chrome and $135 in black.

The one I have mounted on my 72 cannot be used with a centerstand, It was purchased on e-bay and was still in the original box with instructions. I had a custom pipe for a different type of muffler made up from the collector back. Seems to make great power from 3,000 on up and pulls really nice, It was kinda hard to tune with all the other changes I made.

Now that's look and finish I don't understand why its so attractive, way to go, thanks. Appreciate the full frontal view so I can study the down turn cross over that misses the fender on full compression.

Well let's hope that they are good. I got a set off of ebay yesterday for $94.00. I figured the Commando was missing the exhaust and this seemed to be a cool way to solve the problem. I'll post pic when they come in.

Hi Mike, how did you go with the Bub system? I have the same on my bike and am not far of getting it running again. I am interested in views from people who have run them. Cheers

You realise that post is now 9 years old?

FYI @britbikemike hasn't logged in since August 2012

Probably don't expect a reply from him - his last message was talking about selling his bikes following knee surgery and arthritis. :(

<---That had a Bub 2-into-1 when it got parked for 15 years, but I sold it to a guy in Belgium when I did the resurrection and fitted the S pipes it has now. I removed the stock baffle and substituted a Supertrapp baffle I took off a Yamaha 500 single that had been crashed.

It's an old thread, but I don't care.

Not exactly the same, but I've had a BUB 2 into 1 on my P11 since sometime in the late 1980's. Can't remember exactly when it was made. Had to leave my bike with him, since it was a one off. As mentioned above, they may take some tuning, but work well once the carburetion is tuned. The muffler guts blew out of mine fairly quickly. So I removed what was in it, and rigged up a SuperTrapp tip for the megaphone so it could breath better. It has 21 plates in it. Sounds like a 4 cylinder drift car when wound up. I also lengthened the original design right after the collector by 5 inches to improve the top end. Lots of grunt and plenty of top end.

With my pipe the collector is tucked up tight under the motor and does not give me unrestricted access to the sump drain. I have to pull the pipe off to drain the sump when I do a oil change. Also can't install a Jim Comstock designed breather. Came up with my own primitive way of getting pressure out of the crankcase.

All that said, OEM style Commando twin exhaust would probably work, and look better on your bike. It's your toy though, so my opinion means nuts.
