I am trying to get the timing gears off the magneto, but to no success. I feel like I am going to break the gear if I apply to much force. Any advice? This is on a single

Its on a taper.
You usually have to use a gear puller on them, get everything good and pulling, and give it a sharp rap with a LIGHT hammer.
(as in lightweight).

With luck it will pop off.
Sometimes they can be a pig...

Don't be tempted to use a heavier hammer etc, the magneto shafts are fairly fragile if you force anything.
A bit of minor heat may assist too, but don't get the shaft, or the gear teeth seriously hot...

Here's a simple tool that always works.

I think I am being overly cautious. Will add some heat. I assume gears are available if need be.

Sorry I said gear, should have been sprocket. (been playing with an Enfield lately).
Singles stuff can sometimes be tough to find, best to keep it undamaged.

Thats a very clever little lever to get sprockets off, just levers off the sprocket so no damage to anything.
Just tips it slightly, to break the taper.
Where does Fig. 3 come from ?

I can't remember what manual I got it from now, but I've had it saved on my PC for years for easy access :)
