Some lugnut p.o. Must have glued the timing cover of my 68 BSA 441 on, I can not seem to get it off. Does anyone have advice or know something that might help loosen it up??? Thanks, Glenn.

First, are you certain you got all the screws?

Then, rubber mallet or plastic hammer, maybe heat followed by penetrating oil/solvent that sucks into the gap as the cover/case cools.

On some stubborn things like that,I've tapped one or 2 of the 1/4" clearance holes in the cover to 9/32" x 24 tpi. Then I screwed in a suitable bolt ,relieved at the end (waisted below the minor thread diameter),that bottomed out in the tapped hole.
It worked well and made things easier in future.

Thanks, I got it. Unfortunately the kick start shaft and spring came off with it so now I get to figure out how it lines up etc but seems like not to much of a big deal.

Thanks, I got it. Unfortunately the kick start quadrant and spring came off with it so now I get to figure out how the spring and it go back in the right position etc, the clutch rack & ball bearing also came out so I'll need to get that back in right but all seems doable. My books don't give any info on these parts and that sucks.

I got a bit more aggressive with the rubber mallet then I would have liked, managed not to damage it. Don't know what the yellow sealer is they used, never seen it before but it's not like anything I've seen used for this. It's hard and very hard to remove. Silly when you consider this area doesn't get much oil unless the seals go bad.. Which is why I'm doing it and putting a Pazon EI in.

Sounds like the old 3M windshield adhesive, aka "yellow gorilla snot." Dries hard and strong. Guys used to use it instead of safety wire, before Locktite.
