So, over on the Commando Forum they know I live off the edge of the map in central Namibia where I have caused a few raised eyebrows with my growing collection of old two wheelers. I fluke’d onto a 1936 Velocette 250 2 stroke in a dusty garage in my tiny little town and ion a moment of insanity bought it, i mean after all how hard could it really be?
The best part of it and the main factor in my momentary lapse was the engine. It had been redone.
My delusion was well FM if there are parts of BSA's and Triumphs and Norton there just have to be parts for an old Velo, yeeeesssssss but at a heart stopping price.
So I put the thing in a free classified advert section of the South African Bike mag, looking for a trade, something British, similar displacement and in or near working condition.
I ended up swapping for this 1966 C15.
All in landed in my little town I was in it about US800.
Over the next few months a basic refurb upgrade was undertaken, the only major thing was a conversion to electronic ignition.
Funny thing the local auto parts store in the Capital believe it or not had the formula for British Post Office Red for the tank.
Anyway the last bit required was a replacement 60mm diameter Smith's Speedo for the headlight @#$%$#@#@#(@#(# US270!!!!!! for an old new stock speedo, I guess I should just be happy to get one, can't register without it.
Anyway here tis, my gentlemen's around town C15.
