Getting closer to the ride ..... motor, gearbox back in frame, wiring going on... just waiting for my the belt drive... my question is clutch plates...
I have a bronze plates that came with the box of parts, that come with this project which looks to be in good shape... I have never used bronze before so I do not know how they would act on everyday country, highway riding... this bike will not be racing unless I take it to the track for a 1/4 mile blast every now & then...any input would be helpful

Had fiber plates in mine when I got it and never could get the clutch set right to work as it should. Messed with stack hieght to no end.

Broke down and got the bronze plates and have worked flawlessly now for 8 years. Those bronze plates should last a life time.

They are heavier but they do work.

They do not absorb oil, but they also tend to slip when they get a little oily, especially if you have more than factory hp. The bronze plates in mine would always slip when the engine came on the pipe at above 4K rpm. I got tired of taking the clutch apart and cleaning them, so I switched to Barnett fiber plates.

I've used both, and haven't seen much difference in street use. But I haven't put the kind of mileage on that Ludwig does, so can't comment on the effect on the clutch center. So far I haven't had nay problems with them on street bikes. I have had to replace clutch centers on the race bikes, but they were used pretty hard.

I still have my orginal bronze and steel plates in mine with over 130,000 miles on them, I have run them for 5 years with the belt drive but now have gone back to a chain and using early Ford tranny oil, I have just replaced the clutch centre for the first time in 40 years, I have used fiber plates before but went back to my orginal plates after about 6 months with the fiber plates, for me I think the bronze plates work better for me.

Thanks for the info... I've had many bike , none with Bronze plates... I'm a few weeks away from it's 1st start up since 81 so I might start out with bronze
then go with Barnett after words ... We've installed RGM belt drive & with Comnoz balancing magic, hopefully cut down on the vibration by going vertical ... my concern's was weight & notching the clutch center also... even though I did not build this for racing , it 's more for highway & back road riding
