I managed to break a piston ring installing a new set of pistons into my 750. The rings are standard Gandini and I cannot seem to find any. Is it possible to fit a different brand of ring or are they all going to be specific to the brand of piston? If it’s the former, does anyone have any standard 750 rings they want to sell?

You need to make up the appropriate ring compressors as mentioned a very short while ago here. Should not matter what brand of ring you buy so long as it it the same type.

Which ring did you break? By the info on the Gandini web site the top ring for 750s seems like it has a coating and is different shaped face than other rings I know of. Look at the rings with a magnifying glass to see if the top ring face is different, Like barrel shaped or convex shaped vs beveled.

I broke the second ring down - sorry I do not know it’s technical name.

Well look at the ring faces and let me know the shape top and second ( middle ring) .

Because rings are sold in sets, It is harder to find just one , But Once I have info from you I will see what I have. I need info before I look for one.

You are 750 std. no overbore. Correct?

Any piston ring of the same design/composition/size will work.

It's not hard to break a piston ring. I suspect that any mech who has worked on a lot of engines and says they have never broken a piston ring is having a memory issue! ;)

Good luck! :)

750 STD bore. Here is a pic of the second ring.

The brand is new to me and shapes of the rings are different than any thing I have ever seen. You will have to get a whole other set unless the supplier has a single ring.

I kind of think I‘m screwed as I got these from Old Britts and they are running down their stock. I’ll write to Ella to see if she has some but I’m not hopeful.

Thanks Eddie. Would they work even though there is a step machined into the groove?

They are made by the same company, so ask them about it and ask if they have one middle ring to seel.

I dunno Yorkie.
Looking at the rings in the picture on the AN site, the rings, including the ‘step’ look the same.
And as Carl says, they’re the same make.
Probably worth a call or email to confirm measurements with them.
Here’s the AN ‘step’:
