Broken engine mounting bolts

I recently attained a VR880 commando and while checking it over noticed that a nut was missing from one of the top engine mounting bolts, I replaced this then noticed another was loose a more thorough check revealed that the 5/16th bolt/stud? at the bottom of the engine had sheared in two places with one end missing (so I don't know if it was a bolt or stud) I have not yet started the engine (for other reasons) but I am wondering if any other Commando owners had experienced the unusual breakage about an inch from both ends or is this something peculiar to the Kenny Dreer bikes perhaps because of the extra isolastic mount? The broken bolt may have been chrome plated which I believe can cause hydrogen embrittlement or fatigue from age. Overtightening I would think would cause only one end to shear off. The motor has less than 2,000 miles on it but I believe has basically been in storage for the last ten years so the damage was done early in it's life. Any thoughts on the subject?

I've heard of cracked cradle thought the holes and my 1st Combat was on torque dumped on by those before me the cases were twisted on the dowel trapping the cases to come apart or go back together until each dowel relieved on same sides - but you are the first I've heard finding this unusual condition.
Embitterment and extra rubber stiffening engine support makes sense but maybe also some misalignment some how to break both ends instead of just one fracture.
You said chromed, not SS and Dreer likely knew not to use SS in this place.
I had my Combat drilled to accept 7/16" bolts with a rather close fit.

I try not to think too much ,but if the bolts are broken then replace them. Steel would be my recommended material , no stainless at the cradle to engine attachment points and no chromed bolts either. Nowadays you can get super-hardened stuff - same costs as before. Tighten em' up good and if they strip crack or sheer then get back to work. Vibration points here bigtime. Use modern washers too.

I think on a normal Commando it would have been studs and they would not have been chromed. Is the engine cradle wallowed out too where they broke? That will probably need fixing first.
