A friend's MK2A had a terrible squeal in the front brake. Piercing..Loud...Painful. In steps, we changed the pads, sanded the disc, finally I put in a rebuild kit (three square section Orings) and a pair of stainless pucks from Old Britts. There was brown muck in the caliper but it was still doing it's job and not leaking fluid. Finally the brake is silent. I don't know if it was the pucks or the Orings but the noise stopped.

A small smear of copper slip on the BACK of the pads was the recognise way of reducing squeal as I recall. Never did understand exactly why this was supposed to work though !

If putting grease on the back of the pads doesn’t cure it, it looks like it’s time for a long overdue strip and clean.

I think perhaps you need to read through the post again?
