I am considering putting brake light(s) on my "new" 1928 ES2 - purely for safety reasons (I don't think hand signals are understood much these days)
I don't want to alter the bike - the only wire it has currently is the HT lead.
I have seen these bicycle tail lights with an "auto-brake" feature. Must work off an internal accelerometer. Could easily be strapped/unstrapped to the rear of the bike.
They are USB rechargeable as well.
Link below - has anyone tried these, or know of someone who has? Thoughts?
Cheers

I have a B&M unit on my pushbike along with the headlight. This model runs on 3V ac only, not dc, from the hub dyno. For the brake light to function it senses the change in ac frequency and makes the light brighter as the frequency change becomes greater. The Germans are very particular about bicycle lighting and there may be a stop-light unit that operates on dc but it would probably be some multiple of 3V or 5V for the UBS charger. My wife has an LED tail light with USB plug and I can't ride behind her at night or even in the daytime shade. It's that bright. It has no stoplight function though. Peter White is distributor for various high-end bicycle lighting but I couldn't find one with a stoplight function except for the dynamo-powered ones. Perhaps the Xlite is your best bet, though I suspect there may be others.

I'd think that the sensitivity needed for an accelerometer on a bicycle might result in a lot of flashing on a motorbike, but with the low price, it might be worth checking out.

I'm in the bicycle business and very wary of a lot of the cheap aftermarket junk from China.

This item is from Sigma Sport, a well known brand, so warranty/support might be better and they might have a bit more to lose by selling junk. They claim the light lasts for 3 seconds after being triggered (by accelerometer?), so maybe not exactly the result you're looking for. They had a previous version, but this is a new one, so maybe Mk2 is better? No real idea, but the brand is reputable.

The exploding market for ebikes is really allowing for a lot of this stuff, but requires a bit more infrastructure on the bike. There are also some front hub dynamo powered head and tail light systems. Between these two emerging product platforms, there might be enough that a system could be put together for a rechargeable total-loss scenario. It would be a relatively big investment in money and time, but the components to adapt already exist:

There are helmets with integrated brake light working off accelerometers. Also add on lighting for your exisitng helmet.

Quick google reveals loads.
Some even had turn signals integrated.

I guess you could also rig up just the light assembly to the bike.

Yes - I'm not sure drivers would recognise something on your helmet as a brake light. Maybe in the future.
Current likely reaction may be WTF?
Cheers
