I want to thank everyone for input--especially on Boyer set up. (I have a 75 mark 111-for reference. I like the quote of Whatley "Your first day with a Boyer is the first day you start cleaning up......or the last day you ride." I still have a "petite" problem with the Boyer grounding.
Per Boyer instructions, one removes the original red ground from old condenser/ballast resistor setup and puts on positive coil #1. Then the red from the black box (new boyer) is directed to that initial ground and a second lead to the positive coil #1 again. When i did this, I found that I had a bad initial ground.
Is it o.k. to run the red wire out from box to a better engine ground---like on the head-steady, and then have a branch red to coil#1 positive??
I dont want to get a new black box and blow it out right away. Other than that, I will follow Boyer installastion instructions to the tee.
Thanks again--I'm new to this FORUM thing and really appreciate the responses---especially since I spend alot of time in the shop at night cussing, throwing old parts, and crying. By the way,--Im not ELMO--just a tag.
(Actually, ELMO WHITE was the first receiver (for k.c.) who dansed in the end zone...

Yes, a good idea.

ADDITION

Also ensure you have a good ground wire connected between the engine and the harness positive (red) wires and not just for the Boyer, I use the coil bracket mounting bolts for the terminals and run a wire to a cylinder head/headsteady bolt.
