So I want to know how many of you out there have had their Boyer electronic ignition fail :?: Not the wires breaking on the pickup, but the module! I stuck a backup in the tool
kit because I have it, but really, how often do they fail :!:

Just curios

When a high-tension lead gets pulled on one plug while doing carburettor synchronization on a twin carb setup. Not good for the coil either. I use an old sparkplug with thick copper wire twisted around the steel base of the S/P then soldered up with a alligator clip grounded to the fin so that the wasted spark gets to discharge.

Bob, I have had one failure on one of my bikes about 10 years ago. It was in the first 10 minutes after installing it. Out of the 20 or so I have installed in the last 10 years I am thinking about 3 of them failed early enough that I heard about it. Like CNN said , don't run it with a plug lead disconnected but you can just ground the lead to sync the carbs. Jim

The first Boyer I installed went for 25 years without a hiccup, other than the typical stator wire issue. John Healey of Coventry Spares has said on another forum that the number of bad units he gets back from customers is very small compared to the number sold. No electronic gizmo will last forever, but if my new TriSpark does as well as the Boyer did I'll be too old to ride when it fails.

I had one fail about 10 years ago, reason unknown, replaced with another boyer and all has been decent since. I do have a pazon I am going to install just to see if there is a difference.

I've had three fail over a period of 38 years. The first one failed right after one of the original 6 volt Lucas coils failed, so that might have been the cause. The second one started misfiring and appeared to be firing at random crankshaft positions. It got progressively worse, and I finally had to replace it. I substituted another black box, and it worked fine, so I'm pretty sure that was what failed. Both those were on race bikes. The latest one was on my street MK3 this year. All were the older analog design, and had a lot of use before they failed. I've used two others, one on a race bike and one on a street bike, and had no problems with them.
