I'm inclined to agree about the home appliances. I think the stuff made in Germany is ok, but not so good if made in Spain, Poland etc. My Bosch kettle, which was made in China, switches on if it decides to, rather than when I want it to. This is the replacement for the previous one which had the same faulty thermostat switch.
That sounds quite dangerous, the Breville I had sometimes failed to switch off, also dangerous. Unfortunately all electric kettles are now made in China, even if you pay over £100 - with one exception - Ottoni Fabbrica, made in Italy and brilliant - available in Europe direct from the factory or from Amazon.
