Thank you Ando. thats good info.
As i am un-sure what the finnished product will produce [clatter reduction i hope!] i will case harden the foot for now, then hone the surface.
I would think the surface will withstand the 5000 mile test...

John, if you have spare engineering resources why not think about re-engineering the command motor completely ? A DOHC 4 valve per cylinder motor with wider cylinder spacing, centre bearing and 72 degree staggered crank would not be all bad, as long as it looked like the original, but fatter. Sort of like a 1000cc Paton ?

I have one all ready :!: shes 90 bhp, revs to 9500 , DOHC 750 cc 5 bearing crank Fuel injection ,six speed box 270 degree crank, Not very fast just 140 mph, But very light 180KG, Brembos front and rear all alloy engine and frame, up-side down forks {top quaility] 180 w gen,,, 180 rear alloy wheels .
Its a .......Cammando dream... nealy forgot...its a eight valver  Mono shock [that works] None Isolastic, electric start...Gear driven cams, no oil leaks and no rattles, , came with new tyres...New stainless exhaust .. COST ...£1500 Fifteen Hundred quid!!! milage 12000 .

Why wider cylinder spacing; for additional cooling or larger bore? No need for additional space for a middle bearing as there is plenty of space there already.

A DOHC 4 valve per cylinder would be nice but to take full advantage of the potential this provides, you need to spin the motor faster as the Commando is a stroker. A 180 degree crankshaft with or without a middle bearing would be a more robust way to go for high revs.

So when everything is said and done, you might as well shoe horn a 70's era Honda twin into the frame.

Wider spacing for better cooling and a little room for a head gasket between the bores. Like your 1007. Jim

I've been setting my tappets to .005" clearance (hot) since forever with zero problems ever - quieter and more duration.

John Robert - show us some photos of your 8 valve.
